English as a Second Language (ESL)
English as a Second Language Program (ESL)
According to NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND, students enrolled in Deer Park Community City School District must fill out a Home Language Survey as part of the registration process. This section of the registration form asks parents about other languages spoken in the home. If the parents indicate other languages, we are required by law to assess the students English language proficiency.
The OTELA test is given in the early spring with results being returned near the end of the school year. Results score students on reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students will receive scores in each domain on a scale of 1-5.
