Deer Park Schools Hires Sports Medicine Instructor to Expand Career Academies
Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy’s Bill Schomaker to start in August 2016
The Deer Park Community City School District (DPCCSD) Board of Education announced Bill Schomaker as the Allied Health and Sports Medicine instructor, a new course at DPCCSD, as well as the head Strength and Conditioning coach. Schomaker comes to Deer Park Schools from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (CHCA).
“Allied Health and Sports Medicine is a new ‘academy’ in Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School’s Career Academies, which are a series of elective classes providing students with the opportunities to learn skills associated with in-demand careers. This Sports Medicine Career Academy will give students experiences learning about the major career fields in sports medicine and students will finish the course with CPR and first-aid certifications,” said Jay Phillips, Assistant Superintendent of Deer Park Community City School District. “Bill Schomaker comes to Deer Park with over 40 years of hands-on experience and his energy, excitement, and desire to help kids is why we know he’s a good fit for our students and student-athletes."
Schomaker graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s in Microbiology. He was the Director of the Noninvasive Peripheral Vascular Lab at the University of Cincinnati, an administrator over the Outpatient Surgery Department, EKG, and Respiratory Therapy, and a Vascular Technologist at various hospitals. For the last 17 years, Schomaker was the Strength and Conditioning coach at CHCA. During that time, Schomaker’s instruction impacted hundreds of teams, thousands of athletes, and countless students. His passion for training young athletes and positively influencing students is why Deer Park chose him to teach, lead, and develop the Wildcats. For Schomaker, this position is about coming home and continuing Deer Park Schools’ tradition of academic excellence.
“I am very excited and thankful for the trust Deer Park has given me and for the chance to influence the lives of the young men and women of this community. I have some of my fondest childhood memories having grown up in this wonderful community. The facilities and resources are second to none...it is great time to be a Deer Park Wildcat!” said Schomaker.
Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School has undergone an athletic, academic, and physical makeover. The revamped athletics program, broader academic curriculum, and the brand new, state-of-the-art weight room and classrooms make the school district attractive to outside teachers and coaches. New Deer Park Athletic Director Eric Taylor spent the last eight years working with Schomaker at CHCA and knew Schomaker would be a great addition to the teaching and coaching staff.
"I'm ecstatic to add Coach Schomaker to the staff at Deer Park. I've seen first hand what Bill does for young men and women both on and off the field and courts. The strength and conditioning coach has the biggest impact in the athletic department for sports performance and injury prevention. Coach Schomaker's professionalism, knowledge, experience and certifications make him an incredible leader and teacher in his field,” said Taylor.
