October is Bullying Awareness Month
The Junior High Step-Up Club helping to spread the positive vibes!
October is generally recognized as Bullying Awareness Month, and Deer Park Junior/Senior High School has many different events planned throughout the course of the next four weeks. As your students walk through the hallways, they will notice signs encouraging students to be patient, caring, and inclusive. This year's Unity Day T-shirt sale has also begun and will end this week for those wishing to purchase a shirt.
Bullying is a concern that cannot be handled by the school alone. We ask that parents speak with their children about the need to handle conflicts appropriately, reporting concerns to teachers and administration as things happen, and not just being a bystander to acts of unkindness that can happen on the way home school, the park, or online, but to be an upstander to those who will need someone to pull them away from instigators and be a witness on their behalf. Together, we can continue to make DP a great place to be!
The Step-Up Club is also planning:
- "Post-It Positivity"
- Twitter campaign #dpunity in front of the Unity Banner in the cafeteria
- Unity Day will be Friday, the 21st.
- Lessons have taken place in the Jr. High classrooms on conflicts and handling negative actions from peers.
- We will wrap up the month with a Pay It Forward week, kicking off the canned food drive.
Mr. Spelic, Counselor, discusses how your actions can have a negative outcome.
