Dear Amity Elementary Families & Students,
We have officially completed our first quarter of the year, and reports cards are coming home with this letter today. Please take time to review first quarter grades and set goals for second quarter with your student. It has been an amazing start to the year at Amity. With so much going on, I’ve bulleted some key items below.
Amity Named School of Promise - For the first time ever, Amity has been named a School of Promise by the Ohio Department of Education based on the test scores from the 2012-13 school year. Joining Holmes, Amity is one of two schools in Deer Park to earn this honor--one of only five schools in all of Hamilton County that met the criteria. This is a huge testament to all of the great things happening in the Park!
No School November 5th - Deer Park Schools will not be in session on November 5th. This will be a teacher in-service day. Please remember to get out and vote on this important Election Day.
Doughnuts & Discussion November 14th - This year’s second installment of Doughnuts & Discussion will be on Thursday, November 14th at 8:15am, in my office. Please join me to discuss all things Amity over doughnuts and coffee. I gather lots of valuable feedback at our last session, so I hope to see you there!
Conferences November 25th & 26th - Conferences will take place on November 25th & 26th from 1pm to 8pm. Teachers from each grade level will be in communication with you about how to schedule your meeting. There will not be school for students on these two days. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher with any questions. Our goal for this year is 100% participation. We hope to see you on these important days!
Morning Routine - If the temperature is below 32 degrees, we will have our morning assembly in the gym. Breakfast will continue to start at 7:30, and supervision for students not attending breakfast will start at 7:45.
Technology Updates at Amity - I am pleased to share a few updates that have occurred over the past few months, as we work to take advantage of our newly installed wireless network. Purchased entirely from donations made from Kenwood Baptist Church, we were able to get 15 new Chromebooks (a type of laptop) for students to use in the classrooms. Working with our technology team, we have also been able to re-image a set of 10 Nook devices for students to use during independent reading time. These new devices have been added to our two existing traditional computer labs, helping expand the instructional tools available to teachers and students here at Amity.
Math Practice at Home - Students have access to two websites that are great tools to increase math skills. MobyMax provides skill work on a range of topics tailored to each student's needs. Sumdog is a fun way to engage students in learning through a series of games and activities. Students have been given log-ins and can access these sites on their own at: http://www.mobymax.com/signin & http://www.sumdog.com/ .
Thank you again for such a great first quarter! Do not hesitate to call or email with any questions you may have.
