The Deer Park Board of Education last night announced their appointment of Paul Godwin to fill the unexpired term of Tom Griswold, who passed away in January. Godwin was sworn in following the announcement.
Paul Godwin previously served on the Deer Park Board of Education from 1992 - 2005 and he was president for 10 of those years.
"I am honored to fill the seat left open by the unfortunate and untimely death of Tom Griswold. I was privileged to serve on the board with Tom for eight years and feel that, although no one can replace Tom, I will try to honor his memory by helping to meet the challenges before the Board and the District over the next several years,” said Godwin
Jeff Langdon, Superintendent of Deer Park Schools, said the administration looks forward to working with Godwin.
“Paul Godwin brings both experience and dedication to the Deer Park Board of Education. His commitment to every Deer Park school, every student, and every community member is evident in his active involvement in the many district events,” said Langdon.
A Deer Park resident of 41 years, Godwin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from the University of Cincinnati and he served in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973. Both his daughters graduated from Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School and one now teaches 11th grade English courses at the high school. Godwin’s wife Jan taught at Amity Elementary, a Deer Park school.
“The Board appointed Mr. Godwin for many reasons such as his 13 years prior board experience and his current roles on the Board’s Finance and Building and Grounds Committees, but, more importantly, my fellow Board members and I truly believe he will add a lot of insight to our group. Not only does Mr. Godwin know the history of Deer Park, but he also clearly conveyed his eagerness to continue our district’s mission to provide all students with every opportunity to achieve their future goals,” said Peggy Bosse, Deer Park Board of Education President.
After the swearing in ceremony, Godwin echoed Bosse’s final sentiment.
“I believe that all the children of Deer Park deserve a quality education, preparing them for whatever career path they choose to follow. The Deer Park Community City Schools need to provide both that education and guidance to help students to reach their goals.” concluded Godwin.
