Mr. Mark Smiley
Dear Amity Elementary Families,
Another school year awaits with high expectations for the growth and achievement of our students; academically, socially, and emotionally. Our wonderful staff of teachers, aides, nurses, secretaries, custodians, and lunchroom staff are focused on providing an outstanding educational experience to every student that enters our doors each morning. We hope that your summer experiences have been fulfilling, left you re-energized and renewed for the start of a great year of learning!
Throughout the summer, crews have been working hard on the renovation and new construction project at Amity. This project will continue throughout this upcoming school year and the following summer, with the opening of our new building to launch the 2018-19 school year. This year, we will remain flexible as the construction continues, resulting in potential adjustments to our normal routines. Please carefully read each announcement below.
Leslie Carle will be the school nurse at Holmes and Amity. Leslie joins us with experience as a nurse at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
Amanda Fortener will be joining Amity after 7 years of teaching at Hamilton County Math and Science Academy. She will teach 6th grade math and science.
Katie Estep will teach fourth grade math and science next school year. Katie is a graduate of Miami University and comes to Amity with classroom experience at C.O. Harrison Elementary School in the Oak Hills Local School District.
Julie Hill will serve as an intervention specialist at Amity next school year. Prior to Amity, Julie was an intervention specialist at Clough Pike Elementary in the West Clermont School District. Julie is a resident of Deer Park and looks forward to giving back to the community.
Jill Osleson will serve as an intervention specialist at Amity next school year. Jill comes to Amity with 8 years of public school experience as an intervention specialist. Jill and her husband are also residents of Deer Park, and look forward to serving the community.
Class Lists Posted
Class lists will be posted in the front windows of Amity Elementary at 6:00 PM on Friday, August 4. Parents can find the teacher for their child during the 2017-18 school year. Due to the ongoing construction work and cleaning, please park on the street when checking your child’s class list, and do not pull into the parking lot.
Arrival and Dismissal
Our arrival procedure has changed for 2017-18 due to the Amity construction project and us not having access to a gym throughout the school year. School starts at 8:00 AM and ends at 3:15 PM. Breakfast begins in the morning at 7:30 AM in the cafeteria. If your student does not receive breakfast, they can enter the building and head straight to their classroom beginning at 7:45 AM. Please do not drop your child off prior to them being able to enter the building for breakfast or the start of the school day. Drop off and pickup are outside of the gates on Linden Ave. Please only drop off and pick up on Linden Ave on the side of the street closest to our gates. We ask this to ensure the safety of all of our students as they enter and exit the building each day, and please communicate with your child in regards to their means of transportation home daily. Teachers will now be parking in the Cincinnati Church of Christ parking lot next door. Please do not park there during dismissal times next school year.
Third and fourth grade parents, there are several options for how your child can get home at the end of the school day. Complete the 3rd and 4th Grade Dismissal Student Information Sheet, which can be found HERE. Your child should bring this completed sheet with them on the first day of school.
Amity Meet and Greet
Because of our construction, Amity Elementary will not be open to the public prior to the start of school on August 14. In order to still provide our parents the opportunity to meet the teachers and see the building, we will have our official Meet and Greet on August 17 from 5:30-6:30 PM.
We will continue to utilize Final Forms in an effort to help simplify your life! If you are new to the Deer Park Community City School District, you will need to fill out your medical and contact forms electronically. To get started, please visit: https://deerpark-oh.finalforms.com and click on the Parent new account link in FinalForms. This link is also available on the Deer Park Community City School’s web site. We are asking that ALL families (grades K-12) use FinalForms. If you do not have a home computer, please visit your local library where computers are available for public use.
If you are a returning family who completed Final Forms last school year, you will need to login to Final Forms to update any new information or to confirm that there are no changes for the 2017-18 school year.
We are now entering our second year of using Schoology. Schoology’s platform offers a tremendous amount of information in a user friendly version. You will be able to communicate with your child’s teachers and check homework and grades through Schoology. All midterm reports will be accessed via Schoology for the 2017-18 school year.
