Get to Know Mrs. Katie Brown

Mr. and Mrs. Brown

Name: Katie Brown
School building/Grade: Holmes and Amity/ K-6
Subject Area: School Counselor
College(s): Miami University and Xavier University

My family of two grew to a family of three in April, when our son Joey was born. He is now nine months old and his newest trick is to wave goodbye while smiling with his eight baby teeth!  We also have a dog named Bear, who Joey loves to crawl around after.  Bear does not enjoy this game as much as Joey does.

Why did you become an educator?
I love listening to children and learning about their personal stories.  I feel so lucky to be able to be a part of our students' growth!

What do you like best about Deer Park?
I love Deer Park's supportive community.  I am honored to work alongside and with amazing teachers, counselors, administrators, parents, students and community members.

What is your favorite Deer Park tradition? Why?
I know it is one of the newer traditions, but I enjoy the Back to School Bash.  It is so fun to watch the community coming together to kick-start a new school year and catch up on summer stories.

If you weren’t a teacher, what would you be doing?
I was a Physical Education teacher and soccer, lacrosse and swim coach before becoming a School Counselor.  So, if I were not a School Counselor you would probably find me on a pool deck coaching.

What do you like to do in your spare time?  What are some of your hobbies?
In my spare time, you can find me playing with Joey and Bear.  We are always trying to learn new tricks.  Right now Joey and I are working on giving kisses, but so far all I have been able to get are big, wet slobbers.

What’s your favorite movie/book/restaurant?
At the moment my favorite restaurant is anything with take out!

Favorite quote or personal motto:
My favorite quote is from Rita Pierson and it is something I aspire to everyday: "Every child deserves a champion: an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be."
