*IN CASE YOU MISSED IT*
Deer Park Schools Nationally Recognized for Character Education
In case you missed it, Education Week (here and here) recently turned the spotlight on the Deer Park Community City School District’s Thriving Learning Communities (TLC) program. Deer Park School is implementing the TLC program in partnership with the Mayerson Academy whose core purpose is to “work each day to provide extraordinary learning experiences so that individuals, teams and organizations can be their best every day.” Last year, Deer Park Schools was awarded a Straight A grant from the Ohio Department of Education to put this program into effect.
According to the Mayerson Academy, their “Thriving Learning Communities program is a personalized learning program that applies the science of character strengths and the engagement of digital games to deliver the most innovative, strengths-based, blended learning program available.”
At Deer Park Schools, we are thrilled to offer our students a program dedicated to developing individual strengths.
“The more communities and schools have access to the science of character strengths and social and emotional learning and the practical applications of each, the better positioned they will be to inspire motivation, engagement and learning for every learner within the context of our demanding and dynamic world,” said Jillian Darwish, the president of Mayerson Academy.
Currently, the TLC program is taught at Amity Elementary in grades 5/6 and Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School in grades 7/8.
