Dear Holmes Elementary Families,
On behalf of the staff at Holmes Elementary, I would like to welcome everyone back for the 2017-2018 school year. I hope the summer vacation has left you rested and with new energies, ideas and enthusiasms for the special year ahead. And what a special year it’s going to be! Why so special? Because this will be the final year for Holmes Elementary. That’s right! Next August, our K-2 students will join our 3 -6 students as we move into the new and renovated Amity building. It’s with mixed emotions that we leave Holmes, but we can’t help but get excited about moving into a brand new building complete with spacious learning centers, a new gymnasium, updated technology, and air conditioning! I’m sure you’ve driven by Amity and seen all the construction, and I’m happy to report that the project is on time and under budget!
As we prepare for the demands and complexities of moving to Amity, it becomes even more evident that we all need to work together. You’ll soon notice the Amity and Holmes staffs wearing t-shirts with a common theme for this year: “Building Our Future Together”. Everyone – the school and the community – must work together in an extended family environment to insure a smooth transition for all of our students.
The Deer Park Board of Education is committed to listening and responding to our community needs. That’s why we’re excited to offer Full Day Kindergarten at Holmes this year. Jill Jones returns from Amity, and Laury McGahan moves from second grade to join Brenda Livingston and Kristen Huesman to form an all-star kindergarten team. In an effort to help our kindergarten students ease into a full day, we will use the following staggered start:
Staggered Start For Kindergarten Only
Monday, August 14 – Students with last names A – K
Tuesday, August 15 – Students with the last names L - Z
Please mark these important dates on your calendar:
“Meet and Greet” – Thursday, August 10, from 4 pm – 5 pm
First Day of School – Monday, August 14
Kindergarten Preview Night – Monday, August 21 – 5 pm
Holmes Curriculum Night – Thursday, August 31
1st Grade – 5:45 pm
2nd Grade – 6:30 pm
Again, we welcome you back to our wonderful learning community. A place alive with energy, enthusiasm, and a high standard of excellence! It’s a place with high expectations yet plenty of celebrations! Here’s to an AWESOME school year as we work together to make the final year for Holmes Elementary a memorial one.
