On Friday, August 26, the Deer Park Community City School District dedicated the Harry Yeaggy Family Stadium and an all-weather turf field, which was privately funded. Since 2014, Deer Park Schools has undergone a myriad of facilities and branding improvements.
“Friday, August 26 is one for the books. It was a day of celebration at Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School as we unveiled the new, privately funded all-weather turf and dedicated the stadium to the Harry Yeaggy Family. Deer Park Schools is extremely grateful to everyone who believed we could raise the funds privately and install an all-weather field in one year,” said Jeff Langdon, Superintendent of Deer Park Schools.
Last fall, the Wildcat Boosters set a goal to raise $700,000 to replace the Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School’s grass field with artificial turf. By the spring of 2016, the boosters far exceeded their goal by approximately $100,000. Funds for the all-weather field came from individual donors, corporate partnerships, a $260,000 agreement with Mercy Health/Jewish Hospital, and a $200,000 grant by Cincinnati Bengals and NFL Foundation.
“It is truly amazing what a community can accomplish when we work together. I cannot even begin thank the many people who were involved in the fundraising efforts, but I would like to recognize the late Tom Griswold who volunteered to lead the efforts and encouraged the community to raise the money for the kids,” said Langdon.
Tom Griswold enjoyed a long history with the Deer Park Community City School District, having worked as a teacher, coach, administrator, and a Board of Education member. Mr. Griswold had an unshakable commitment to every child in Deer Park and his final effort for the children was the Pride in the Park Turf Campaign.
“As co-chair of the Pride in the Park turf campaign, Mr. Griswold along with Bill Cunningham devoted countless hours making phone calls and writing letters to many of his former athletes. He was passionate about making the dream of synthetic turf a reality by the fall of 2016. I’m proud to say we finished out his dream and now all the kids in Deer Park have access to a quality playing surface,” said Jim Stoll, Director of Business Operations at Deer Park Schools.
