Spring Sports Wrap-Up

15129Spring sports brought an end to one of the most successful years ever in Deer Park athletics. The baseball, softball and track & field squads all celebrated historic seasons. 

Track & Field: The Wildcats Track & Field squad celebrated seven regional qualifiers, including three in the shot put, the boy's 4x400 meter relay team, the high jump and the open 400 meter run. Evan Schramm (pictured far right) was a top finisher for the boy's squad, finishing in 8th place in the regional high jump competition.

DSC_0391Softball: The softball squad finished the season with a 19-5 record, finishing second in the Cincinnati Hills League. The Wildcats earned a trip to the sectional finals, knocking off Oyler (28-3) and North College Hill (19-0) before a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Reading (10-9, extra innings) in the sectional championship game. Star senior and University of Charleston commit Jenna Shepherd was honored as the LaRosa's MVP of the Week on April 18 and nominated as a Cincinnati Enquirer Sports Player of the Week on May 24.

DSC_0268Baseball: The Deer Park baseball squad finished the season with 12 victories, the most for a Wildcat team in more than 11 years. The club knocked off Seven Hills (10-1) and Purcell Marian (1-0) in postseason play to advance to the sectional finals, falling to Cincinnati Country Day (7-0). The Wildcats were led by Dakota Handorf, who finished the season with a .513 batting average, second in the CHL. He also led the league in doubles, triples and runs batted in.
