***CORRECTION: In the previous release, we had one minor error on the calendar which reflected Martin Luther King Jr. day on the wrong day in 2019. We apologize for the error. MLK Day will be celebrated on Monday, January 21, 2019. Please see the attached updated calendar.***
On Tuesday, January 23, the Deer Park Board of Education approved the 2018-19 Deer Park Community City School District calendar. Please see below for the official calendar or click the link provided.
This year, you will notice several changes to the calendar dates, most noticeably, the start and end dates for the 2018-19 school year. Next year, school will begin on September 4 following the Labor Day weekend. Classes will then remain in session through the first week of June, with the last day of the school year coming on June 7.
This decision was made in order to most effectively accommodate what is likely to be a very busy schedule with the completion of the Amity project coming right down to the wire. Our paramount goal remains to start the school year without delay because of construction. The pushed back date allows our administration, teaching staff, and custodians to have ample time after construction is completed to make sure the new building is ready to go for the start of school.
At this time, it is our expectation that the following school year's calendar (2019-20) will return to a school calendar more closely aligned with the 2017-18 year.
As always, please let the Board Office know if you have any questions or concerns.
