Dear Deer Park Jr/Sr High School Families:
As a school, our number one priority is the safety and wellbeing of all students. With that being said, we would like to inform you of an incident that occurred today at Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School.
This afternoon, it was brought to the attention of the Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School administration that a student at the school may have a firearm in his/her locker. The student was immediately detained and escorted to a safe area by the School Security Officer. Upon further investigation, school administration did recover an unloaded BB gun from the student’s backpack, which was located in the student’s locker. The Deer Park Police Department was immediately notified of the findings and responded to the Jr/Sr High School.
At this time, the student has been removed from school premises and the student involved will be subject to discipline in accordance to school board policy as well as laws that govern weapons on school grounds.
Our school is committed to the safety and education of all our students. We also want to clearly communicate with parents about safety issues when they arise. Please discuss this incident with your children and emphasize that it is against the law to bring weapons of any type to school. Also, please emphasize the importance of telling you or a staff member if there is a weapon at school. In this way, we are all working together to keep our school safe.
Please feel free to call me at 513-891-0010 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or concerns.
