Deer Park High School Hosts Naturalization Ceremony for 70 New Citizens

CINCINNATI, Ohio – For the fourth straight year, Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School played host for the naturalization of 70 citizens into the United States last Friday. This year, 70 people from 26 countries said the Oath of Allegiance and became official citizens of the U.S.

The ceremony—which has been held annually in the Deer Park High School gym since 2016—was led by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Beth A. Buchanan with a keynote speech from Raj Rajagopal, a member of the Hamilton County Republican Party and a candidate for Ohio State Representative for the 29th District, as well as a first generation immigrant to America.

Representatives from Ohio Senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman’s office, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the League of Women Voters and Deer Park Mayor John Donnellon each provided remarks and congratulations for the new citizens.

In the last four years, Deer Park students have watched approximately 280 people gain citizenship to the United States through this event. The ceremony began in 2016, when a pair of Deer Park students were among the group of 70, and has continued as an annual tradition ever since.
