Amity Elementary Student Named Student Recycler of the Year

November 15, 2017

Amity Elementary fifth grader Hailey Recker has taken a passion for recycling and turned it into a tremendous recognition from the Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District.

The three-year member of the Amity Green Team—and team captain—was acknowledged as the Student Recycler of the Year on Wednesday morning. The award is given by the county along with “Best City Recycler,” “innovative Community Recycling Program,” and “Excellence in Public Recycling.”

Hailey is one of upwards of 50 members of the Amity Green Team, which began in 2007 under the direction of Patrick Ormond, who last year was named the Outstanding Recycling Educator of the Year at the same event. The program has continued this year under the tutelage of Intervention Specialist Jamie Wagner.

According to the Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District website, “The District awards communities with outstanding or significantly improved recycling programs; businesses or organizations who excel in reducing, reusing or recycling; and schools, educators and students who have made an outstanding contribution to recycling education in Hamilton County.”

The administration at Deer Park Schools is proud of Hailey’s accomplishments, as well as all of the members of the Green Team and the Amity Elementary faculty and staff who have made this program a great success. Congratulations, Hailey!
