Proceeds to benefit Samaritan’s Feet, non-profit group that provides shoes for children worldwide
It's that time of year! On Wednesday, February 8th at 7:30 pm the Deer Park Girls Basketball team will be hosting its 3rd annual Samaritan's Feet Barefoot Game against Wyoming High School. It will be a big night for our program, we will donate a check to Samaritan's Feet International for the money we raised to better children around the world and we will look to beat Wyoming for the first time in school history.
Over the course of the next two weeks, our girls basketball players will be reaching out by asking staff and students to buy wristbands that go towards helping children across the globe that do not have shoes. The rubber wristbands will be $10 dollars and the athletic wristbands will be $5 dollars. Donations are always welcome. For every ten dollars raised, two children will receive a pair of new shoes.
For those of you that are new to the building, Samaritan's Feet International is an organization that inspires hope in children by providing shoes as the foundation of a healthy life resulting in the advancement of education and economic opportunities.
So why Shoes?
Over 30 years ago, a young Nigerian boy received his first pair of shoes. It changed his life. We want to inspire hope through the gift of shoes, the act of washing feet, and encouragement to those who need it most. People without shoes face dangers like laceration, fungus, and insect bites that can lead to infection, disease, and even death. Children with no shoes are often not allowed entrance to education in many countries and can find their way into slavery, or unsafe and inexcusable child labor environments. Since its founding in 2003, Samaritan’s Feet and its partners have distributed over 6.5 million pairs of shoes in over 75 countries and 325 U.S. cities.
With your help the past two years, our girls basketball team has been able to raise $5,000 dollars for this organization. This has helped over one thousand people receive a pair of shoes. Last year alone we were able to raise $3,000 dollars and our basketball program was able to provide every student at Holmes Primary School a new pair of shoes!
The girls basketball team will be hosting its annual Spirit Week leading up to the big game. Monday, February 6th will be Mismatch Shoe Day, Tuesday, February 7th will be Wacky Sock Day, and Wednesday, February 8th will be Wear ORANGE DAY and we will host a pep assembly to get the school ready for the big game.
