Deer Park Men's Soccer Season Ends in Postseason Run

As the Number 10 seed, Deer Park High School varsity men’s soccer team knew the postseason road ahead of them would be tough. Fortunately for the Wildcats, they thrive on adversity and their last game of the postseason tournament versus the Number 2 seed Roger Bacon High School was a hard fought battle.

“[Deer Park] had a great season this year. Personally, I had my best season finishing tied for 7th in the CHL with 8 goals and 10 assists and earning 2nd team CHL. However, it was not without the help of my teammates, especially my fellow seniors Sean Satterfield and Osmar Gutierrez, who helped me frustrate other teams' defenses. Our defense was led by senior Ryan Anderson who helped us achieve 5 shutouts. We ended the season with a winning record of 10-8-1 and competed well in a tough league where 6 of the 8 teams finished with winning records,” said Troy Bosse, senior at Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School

For the Deer Park Wildcats, going into the postseason with three scorers in the top eight of the Cincinnati Hills League (CHL) were good odds. Those odds increase when you look at the amount of All-League and All-District athletes on the team. With Sean Satterfield--1st team All-League and 1st team All-District--and Jake Blackburn, Troy Bosse, and Osmar Gutierrez--all 2nd team All-League--the Wildcats also had a goalkeeper, Jake Blackburn, who gave the team 100 saves and five shutouts over the season.

“I am so proud of this [Deer Park] team. They worked hard and played the game with enthusiasm the entire season. The tournament run was a nice way to end a very successful season. The way we were supported by the community was also amazing. The last 2 tournament games the fans were great and I would like them to know that it doesn't go unnoticed by the team. Again, thank you,” said Deer Park Coach Joe Wehrle, Southwest Division III Coach of the Year.

In the first tournament game, the Wildcats beat the Number 6 ranked team, Clark Montessori. Then, in the second game, they won in overtime against the Number 8 ranked team, Finneytown High School. Next up was Roger Bacon High School, the Number 2 ranked team.

“The Men's Soccer Team played the entire season with great enthusiasm and passion. They have made our school, community and many former Wildcats proud to watch them compete. The seniors have left their legacy in the Deer Park Wildcats soccer program,” said Eric Taylor, Athletic Director at Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School.

It was a big night for Deer Park’s Sean Satterfield, senior, who scored the only goal for Deer Park in what ended up being his final game in a Wildcats uniform. Though the Wildcats managed to even the score at the half, the Roger Bacon Spartans surged ahead to end the game 5-1.

“Going into the tournament this year, nobody expected us to get past the first round. To get past Clark the first game was special, but to beat Finneytown in overtime meant the world to every single player on our team. We knew that Roger Bacon would be a tough game but that didn't stop us. Every single person left all they got on that field. I'm so proud of our team this year and will never forget this historic run,” said Sean Satterfield, senior at Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School.
