Deer Park High School Names New Varsity Softball Coach

John Schablein brings 19 years of experience to the Park

Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School, a Deer Park Community City School, announced John Schablein as the new Deer Park High School varsity softball coach. Schablein replaces Bill Newton who led the Lady Wildcats to six CHL Championships: 2005, 2006, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015.

“Deer Park has a history of excellence in softball and when we saw John Schablein’s impressive coaching resume and record, we knew he was the right person for the job," said Eric Taylor, Deer Park Junior/Senior High School Athletic Director. "Coach Schablein does more than teach technique and strategy, he works with the student-athletes to become good stewards of the sport and school.”

A graduate of La Salle High School, Mount St. Joseph University, and Xavier University, Schablein has coached girls high school sports for 19 years.  He began coaching at Roger Bacon High School as the girls freshman basketball coach before progressing to their varsity coach.  In 2009, Schablein left Roger Bacon High School and took over the basketball and softball programs at Taylor High School. In 2011, Schablein took over the Taylor softball program and he led the Yellow Jackets to two of their best years on record.  Schablein was named the 2014 Softball Coach of the year. Schablein has a proven track record of building enthusiasm, participation, and performance at each coaching position he has held over the years.

“I believe coaching is about much more than softball. Instilling qualities like character, accountability, and respect ensures that all involved not only become better players, but also better people,” said Schablein.

Schablein’s teams have 147 wins, six sectional titles, three District titles and one regional final appearance. Along the way Schablein has been named GGCL Coach of the year, Ohio District 16 Coach of the year, Cincinnati Enquirer Coach of the Year, and he coached in two East/West All-star games (basketball).

“I am excited about coaching Deer Park because they have a long history of softball excellence and I want to help them to take the next step and compete at the highest level,” said Schablein.

Schablein is a founding partner of Focus Wealth Management a financial planning firm with offices in Bridgetown and West Chester.  He and his wife Mary Jo have been married 32 years, they have two children and two Grandchildren.
