A Message from Amity Principal Josh Drouhard

Dear Amity Families,

I am enjoying a weekend away and celebrating our nation’s birthday with my extended family up north! Grilling out great food and then a table full of conversations with loved ones is what I enjoy most about this holiday. Even though I’ve been an administrator for 9 years, I always get the same question from a family member, “So, do you get summers off?”

I always have to explain that while I am able to take some vacation days, work continues at Amity throughout the summer. Much of my summertime work revolves around preparation for the next year. Our budget, building calendar, teacher professional development plan, class lists, and building goals are developed over the summer. These are just some of the many tasks that are completed in preparation for students. I also work to attend professional development trainings and partake in book club discussions with fellow Deer Park administrators to improve myself and administrative skills. This summer was a little busier with us welcoming students into the building for six weeks of the summer! I wouldn’t have it any other way though!

I hope that you were also able to enjoy some great food and conversations with your family today!

Happy Independence Day!

Josh

Save the Date: Launch 2021 | Friday, July 30

Two years ago, and for two-years running, Deer Park Schools and our community organization OneDeerPark hosted a summer festival called Launch, that provided our students with back-to-school supplies, haircuts, food, games and prizes all at no charge to the families. Everything was completely FREE! While COVID obviously put a halt on our momentum last year, we are back up and running this year and looking to make it our best event yet!

Thanks to local sponsors and OneDeerPark, this festival-like event will feature carnival games, prizes, popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy, a dunk tank and so, so much more!

Come out, grab a burger or hot dog, play a game or two, and get a fresh cut to get ready for the start of the 2021-22 school year! It's sure to be a great event for the entire Deer Park community!
