Deer Park Schools Bicentennial

Celebrating 200 Years of Deer Park Schools

In 1826, early Deer Park pioneer Daniel Schenck donated a portion of his farmland so that a school could be built for children in the growing community. That first log schoolhouse was named Amity, meaning friendship, and it marked the beginning of what would grow into Deer Park Community City Schools.

Now 200 years later, Deer Park Schools continues to build on that legacy — educating generations of students and strengthening the community along the way.

As we begin the early stages of our Bicentennial Celebration in 2026, we invite students, families, alumni, and community members to join us in celebrating the people, traditions, and stories that have shaped Deer Park Schools.

Deer Park Schools: An Oral History

Explore the Amity History Loft

Visitors to Amity Elementary can take a step back in time by exploring the Amity History Loft, located at the top of the staircase inside the building. The loft features artifacts and displays that highlight the early days of Deer Park Schools, including items connected to the original Amity School and the district’s long history in the community. Through photos, preserved artifacts, and recorded stories, the space helps bring nearly two centuries of Deer Park education to life.

Take the virtual tour and learn more about the history behind these artifacts.

Bicentennial Celebration Week

The district’s major bicentennial celebration will take place during:

October 4–10, 2026

The week will culminate with a special Bicentennial Homecoming Celebration during the Deer Park Wildcats football game on October 9.

Additional events, alumni gatherings, and community celebrations will be announced as plans continue to develop.

Throwback Thursdays

Throughout the year, Deer Park Schools will share historic photos, artifacts, and stories through Throwback Thursday posts, highlighting key moments from the district’s 200-year history.

Follow along on the district’s social media pages and website as we revisit the people and milestones that helped shape Deer Park Schools.

The Bicentennial Logo

The official Deer Park Schools Bicentennial logo draws inspiration from one of the district’s oldest artifacts — the historic Amity School bell.

The bell represents the early days of education in Deer Park, while the four stars symbolize the district’s historic school buildings and namesakes:

  • Amity School

  • Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School

  • Holmes Elementary

  • Howard Elementary

The bold Bicentennial banner and the years 1826–2026 celebrate two centuries of Deer Park Schools.
