Amity Loft Audio Tour

Introduction
In 1825, the state of Ohio established policy for building public schools. Soon after, Daniel Schenck, an early pioneer to the area, called a meeting of his neighbors to urge them to support building a school for their children. He donated a plot of his farmland, and in 1826 a log school was built upon it. Schenck named the school Amity, meaning friendship. This simple, one room schoolhouse for the pioneers’ children was the beginning of what grew to become Deer Park Schools.
In the history loft at the top of the staircase, and in the entrance foyer, are some of the artifacts from the earlier days of our school district’s history.
Below, you will find photos, along with audio from Deer Park Schools historian Cindy Homan describing the history of each item. Click any item to learn more.
