K-12 Physical Education Standards
Throughout the 2015-16 school year, the Physical Education evaluations were piloted with over 700 physical education teachers participating and providing feedback, which aided various, minor modifications to assure student understanding, validity, and time on assessments. These updated evaluations have been finalized and will serve to replace the previous physical education evaluations.The State Board of Education adopted the following National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) standards in December 2007 and benchmarks and indicators on June 8, 2009.
Ohio’s Academic Content Standards in Physical Education are made up of five standards:
A physically literate individual is able to:
STANDARD 1
Demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
STANDARD 2
Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.
STANDARD 3
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.
STANDARD 4
Exhibits responsible, personal and social behavior that respects self and others.
STANDARD 5
Recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.
