Mr. Josh Drouhard
Dear Amity Family,
I want to take a quick moment to introduce myself as the new Principal of Amity Elementary. I’m coming to Amity after spending 14 years as a teacher and administrator in the Lakota Local School District. I was inspired to become an educator due to a passion for helping children learn and grow. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children.
I hope everyone had a memorable summer! We are excited to welcome you back for the 2019-2020 school year. Everyone has been working hard in preparation for this school year. Our building is as shiny as the first day it was opened, thanks to the hard work of our custodial team. Our teachers have attended conferences and met weekly over the summer having “Amity Talks” which focus on the newest trends in education. They can’t wait to put their new teaching skills into action with our students. We are truly excited to get to know your student and help them reach their full potential!
We’d also like to welcome some new teachers to our Amity family. Our new staff members are: Stephanie Laux, Pre-School (moving from Holmes Building); Emily Hoops, 1st Grade; McCaulley Longwell, 1st Grade; Charlie Vample, 2nd Grade; Emily Upton, 5th Grade; Kevin Moulton, 5th grade (moving from Jr./Sr. High School); Rylee Walling, Special Education; Kelly Snyder, School Psychologist; Kristi Davenport, Instructional Aide; Sarah LIttle, Instructional Aide; and Andera Kemmeter, Instructional Aide (moving from Holmes Building). They’ve already heard about how great Amity is, and can’t wait to meet all our wonderful students!
Please enjoy your last week of summer and we’ll see everyone on August 13th for the first day of school!
Arrival and Dismissal
Students can be dropped off both in front of the building by the main office or along the playground parking lot. Only K-1 students will be picked up in front of the building. Grades 2-6 will be asked to pick up on the playground side of Amity or on Beech Ave. If your K-1 student has an older sibling in the building, the older sibling can also be picked up with the younger sibling in front of the building.
In addition, K-1 teachers will be staging students outside of the building for drop-off beginning at 3:05 p.m. This should relieve some of the congestion on Linden Ave. Grades 2-6 will release their walkers at 3:10 p.m. and walk their car riders to the playground lot to meet their parents by 3:15 p.m.
We also need your help with the safety and efficiency of this procedure. If your child is a walker and you are meeting them at school, please communicate a meeting place with him/her. We ask that you do not stand in front of the exit doors as we will need space to stage students and dismiss them safely and efficiently. If you have a child in Grades 2-6 and plan on using the front entrance pick up location, please communicate this information with your child and their classroom teacher. Finally, please do not park your car and get out to meet your child as this severely hinders all traffic behind you.
- 7:30 am - Breakfast, Amity Cafeteria* Enter through the open cafeteria doors facing Linden Avenue. This drop off point only applies to students arriving at 7:30 to eat breakfast. All other drop-offs/pick-ups must follow the traffic pattern indicated above..
- 7:45 am - Arrival (Non-Breakfast)
- 3:10 pm - Bus/Van Riders and Walkers Dismissed
- 3:15 pm - Car Riders Dismissed
Students arriving for breakfast will enter the cafeteria through the Linden Ave. entrance. These will be the only students that are dropped off on Linden Ave. Following breakfast these students will be walked by a staff member to the gym for the pledge and morning announcements (grades 2-6). K-1 students will stay in the cafeteria.
Students not eating breakfast will be welcomed into the building beginning at 7:45. Students in grades 2 - 6 will report directly to their assigned areas in the gym and students in grades K & 1 will report to the cafeteria. Following the pledge and a brief morning announcement at 7:55, students will be escorted to their classrooms by their teachers.
Bus/van riders and walkers will be dismissed at 3:10. All buses are loaded on the side of the building on E. Galbraith Rd. Car Riders will be escorted by their teachers to their assigned locations at 3:15 to dismiss students to their families.
Amity will be running one shuttle bus in both the morning and afternoon. This bus will run two routes, to/from both the Holmes Building and the Howard Building. You can find an application for the shuttle bus HERE.
Class lists will be posted on Tuesday, August 6 at 5:00 p.m. The lists will be available in the front windows of the main entrance to Amity Elementary.
Back to School Bash
We will be holding our Annual Back to School Bash on Monday, August 12th at 11 a.m. on the front lawn of Amity Elementary School. Once again, community volunteers will be grilling up hot dogs, hamburgers, and brats! For $2, you will get a ticket for one grill item, one bag of chips, and a cold drink! Afterwards, enjoy an ice cream from Rhino’s Soft Serve (priced based on weight)! This is a cash only event.
Amity Meet and Greet
Amity’s Meet and Greet will be held on Monday, August 12th, from 5-6 p.m. for grades K-3 and 6-7 p.m. for grades 4-6. The start of each session will begin with a short presentation from our new Amity Principal, Mr. Josh Drouhard, in the gymnasium.
