WASHINGTON D.C. – Last week, during the Deer Park Jr. High School 8th graders’ yearly trip to Washington D.C., a group of students had the opportunity to take part in a once in a lifetime experience.
Four students, Amiah League, Addyson Beecham, Brody Harris and Vanessa Hobdy were part of the wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It is the first time Deer Park has participated in the ceremony.
Each year, the 8th graders venture to the East Coast for the school trip, which includes a tour of Gettysburg, a trip to the home of George Washington in Mt. Vernon and a tour of the Washington National Cathedral.
The trip also includes a visit to Arlington National Cemetery for the Changing of the Guard. This year, the four Deer Park students took part in the ceremony.
Students also visit the World War II, Korean and Vietnam War Memorials, take a trip to the U.S. Capitol building and visit the Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorials.
This was a tremendous experience for our students, who represented Deer Park extremely well throughout their time in the Nation's Capital.
