A Message from the Principal
Hello Deer Park Families!
As the academic year draws to a close, we are gearing up for one of our most significant celebrations, starting Monday - Staff Appreciation Week. This entire week is dedicated to celebrating and expressing our gratitude towards the dedicated educators at the Jr./Sr. High School and Amity Elementary.
I urge you to take a moment this week to reach out to a teacher, teachers, or staff members who have played a pivotal role in your child's education, to express your thanks. Having had the privilege to work across several great schools throughout my career, I can confidently say that our staff here is unparalleled. Our teachers and staff consistently go above and beyond, not just in terms of time and resources, but most importantly, in the love and care they extend to our students.
The profound relationships they cultivate with both students and their families are instrumental in shaping our kids into the incredible individuals they become. Please, let's all make an effort this week to acknowledge and appreciate the remarkable staff we have in our community. Their dedication and hard work deserve our recognition and gratitude.

Building Spotlight
Walk-A-Thon
This week our Chick-fil-A Leader Academy sponsored our annual Walk-A-Thon for Amity and Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School. This event aims to raise funds to support the continuous improvement of Deer Park Schools, with all proceeds going towards various school capital projects. The late Tom Griswald started the initiative in 1997, and the Walk-a-Thon has since become a beloved community event in which all students in grades K-12 participate. This year’s proceeds will go towards helping the district resurface the track located in Harry Yeaggy Stadium.
Since its inception in 1997, K.I.D.S. has raised over $150,000 to support a range of school projects, including technological advancements, campus improvements and athletic facility upgrades.

Mentoring Field Trip
On Tuesday, April 30th, our annual peer mentoring field trip took place at the Joe Nuxhall Miracle Fields, a facility dedicated to enabling individuals with special needs to engage in various athletic activities. The high school's peer mentoring group, along with students with special needs from our district, participated in an array of activities, working together in groups. It was truly heartwarming to witness our students collaborating, assisting each other, and thoroughly enjoying the experience. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Jami Baker, Kim, and Bonnie Nuxhall for their invaluable contribution in making this event a success.

Reminder to Unwell Students Leaving Early:
We've observed an increasing trend where students are directly reaching out to their parents or guardians, requesting to be picked up early due to feeling unwell. We want to remind everyone of the correct procedure in such situations. If your child feels sick during school hours, the first step should be to visit the school nurse. Our school nurse is equipped to assess your child's health and make a determination on whether they should remain in school or go home. This decision is made with the student's best interest in mind, ensuring their health and safety are prioritized. After the assessment, the nurse will communicate directly with a parent or guardian to inform them of the situation and discuss the appropriate next steps.
Attention rising juniors and seniors:
If you are interested in preparing for the SAT, sign up for the SAT bootcamp this summer! The SAT is free for all juniors each school year in the spring. Get a jumpstart on some practice! Here's the link to sign up.
See Mrs. Beck for additional questions.
