SchooLinks Guardian Onboarding and FERPA Authorization

Dear Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School Families,

As we shared with families last spring, Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School is utilizing SchooLinks as part of our college and career readiness efforts. As we begin the 2026-27 school year, we want to remind families about two important steps within the platform.

First, all parents and guardians of students in grades 7-12 should complete the SchooLinks guardian onboarding process and access their account. Second, parents and guardians of students in grades 9-12 should complete the FERPA Authorization within SchooLinks.

1. SchooLinks Guardian Onboarding | Grades 7-12

Deer Park has provided guardian email addresses to SchooLinks, which means an account is already waiting for you.

To access your account:

1. Visit app.schoolinks.com to access the SchooLinks login page.
2. Sign in using the email address you have on file with Deer Park Schools:
   • If that email is a Google account, select Login with Google.
   • Otherwise, select Forgot Password, enter the email you have on file with the district and follow the instructions sent to your email to create a password.
3. Once logged in, select My Students at the top of the page to see the student or students associated with your account.
4. Select your student's name to access their casefile. From there, you can view assessment results, review course plans, communicate with their counselor and access other SchooLinks resources.

If you do not see the correct student associated with your account, please contact the school so we can assist with correcting the information.

2. FERPA Authorization | Grades 9-12

Families of students in grades 9-12 should also complete the FERPA Authorization available through SchooLinks.

This authorization gives Deer Park Jr./Sr. High School permission to send educational records on your student's behalf through SchooLinks, including transcripts, recommendation letters and other application documents.

If your student is 18 or older, the student will need to complete the authorization themselves.

Accessing the FERPA Authorization

The authorization can be accessed in two ways:

Email: When the FERPA Authorization is assigned, you will receive an email indicating that action is required. The link in the email will take you directly to your student's Consent & Releases page.

Guardian Dashboard: The FERPA Authorization will also appear in the To-Do List on your SchooLinks Guardian Dashboard. Select the item to access your student's Consent & Releases page.

Completing the Authorization

Once you have accessed the FERPA Authorization:

1. Review the authorization language and select Complete FERPA Authorization.
2. Read the Review your FERPA rights section.
3. Enter your full legal name in the Your signature field as your electronic signature.
4. Select Complete to submit.

Once submitted, the authorization will show as Complete with a timestamp and the name of the person who completed it.

Please note: If you have more than one student in grades 9-12, a separate FERPA Authorization must be completed for each student.

The FERPA Authorization does not need to be completed each year. Once completed, it remains on file in SchooLinks.

We appreciate families taking a few minutes at the beginning of the school year to make sure their SchooLinks account is accessible and, for families in grades 9-12, that the FERPA Authorization is complete. These steps help ensure our students and counselors have the tools they need as students plan for life after Deer Park.
