The Amity Weekly Minute: March 17, 2024

What's New?

From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard

Dear Amity Families,

Being a principal has many different job tasks attached to it, and I never know where this job will take me. The previous Friday put me front and center on a firing line in front of our whole school. We were celebrating our Kids Heart Challenge top award winners. Whip cream pies stood by the ready for two students to select who would get a pie in the face for their incentive. Fifth grader Gehrig Sayer picked up his pie, acted like he was going for Mrs. Fowler, and then switched directions toward me. I knew I was done for! He made quick work and did a great job smothering me with pie. It was a great laugh for all, and will add it to my job description, ha!

Please make sure you see below for the accomplishments of all our students with this fundraiser. They all helped raise money for such a noble cause. Special thanks to Callen Fowler, our physical education teacher, for all her work and dedication to this extra project.

Take Care,
Josh

Kids Heart Challenge

Our Kids Heart Challenge event has ended and what a success it was! Thank you to our students who participated this year. Whether it was participating during PE class as we practiced 911 calls, learning and discussing ways in which to continue making healthy heart and body choices, practicing hands only CPR or collecting donations for kids with heart disease, you played a part! You are all heart heroes! This year our school fundraising goal was $6,500 and our dedicated students were able to raise $8,552.59! Congratulations to 4th grader Ember Saunders who raised $1,123.03, kindergartner Vivie Jones raising $1,215.98 and 5th grader Gehrig Sayer who raised $1,362.39. Thank you for supporting a lifesaving cause.

Below, you can view photos from the school-wide assembly where the top earners were recognized!

World Down Syndrome Day

World Down syndrome Day is Thursday, March 21st. Help us honor, spread awareness and be in support of individuals with Down syndrome this Thursday by allowing your child to wear mismatched socks! The world wide date of March 21st was chosen to observe individuals with Down syndrome due to the extra chromosomes a person with Down syndrome has (triplication of chromosome 21). Your child has been learning about Down syndrome and the significance of why we want to wear mismatched socks to spread awareness. We look forward to seeing our students “Rock Their Socks”.

Dismissal Process Changes

With a return of nice weather, we understand that there will be changes with how students get home. If your child is going to be a walker vs. their traditional car rider (or vice versa) please let our office and homeroom teacher know. This helps us coordinate within the building of where students will be going. Please feel free to utilize our Amity Attendance email address: amity.attendance@dpccsd.org
