The Amity Weekly Minute: November 10, 2024

What's New

From the Desk of Mrs. Warman

Dear Amity Families and Community,

Wow! It has truly been a busy and exciting week here at Amity, filled with memorable experiences and fantastic events that make our school so special.

This week, our 5th-grade students had the incredible opportunity to attend Camp Kern. This experience is one that our students look forward to each year, and it’s one that leaves lasting memories of learning, friendship, and fun. We couldn’t have made this trip possible without the support of our dedicated parents and high school chaperones. A heartfelt thank you to all of you who joined us—you played an essential role in making this a wonderful experience for our students.

A special thank you also goes to our outstanding 5th-grade teachers, Melissa McNutt, Kevin Moulton, and Jill Osleson, for their commitment and enthusiasm. Spending time at camp requires extra energy and dedication, and we’re so grateful for their willingness to be there for our students.

Lastly, I want to express our deepest gratitude to our Camp Kern coordinator, Julie Sippola. Julie’s dedication and enthusiasm for Camp Kern are invaluable, and her hard work behind the scenes makes this memorable experience possible for our students. Camp wouldn’t be the same without her passion and commitment!

In addition to Camp Kern, we also celebrated our annual Veterans Day assembly on Friday. Our second-grade students did a magnificent job singing and putting on a fantastic patriotic show in front of a packed house. It was inspiring to hear from each of our honored Veterans as they shared their service locations and roles within the military. We thank them deeply for their service to our country. A special thank you to Zoe Parker, Jackie Baker, Cheryl Walsh, Charlie Vample, Nic Huster, and Chris Huster for all their organization and help in putting on such a meaningful tribute to our Veterans.

Amid all the excitement this week, our students in the library also engaged in learning about the voting process and the significance behind Veterans Day, adding to their understanding of these important aspects of our nation’s history and civic duty.

Veterans

Thank you again to everyone who contributed to making this week so special for our Amity community. We’re grateful for your support, and we look forward to sharing more wonderful memories in the weeks to come.

Have a great week ahead!

Warm regards,
Laura Warman

Recess During Cold Weather

With a return to colder temperatures, please remember to send your child to school with appropriate outdoor attire for recess. We will be going outside whenever the “feels like” temperature is 25 degrees or above. This gives our students time to burn some energy while getting some fresh air. Our recesses are 20-30 minutes so it is important that our students be comfortable while they are outside.

Need Assistance During the Holidays?

With the leaves beginning to change, we’re reminded that the holidays will be here before we know it. If you and your family are in need of assistance this holiday season, fill out a Holiday Food Drive form. This year, all forms are available online only.

Please make sure you return your holiday food drive request form as soon as possible. One form per family.

If you need assistance with this process or have questions, please contact Pam Gilreath at gilreath.p@dpccsd.org or 513-936-4698.

Varsity Tutors Information

We want to remind you that all students in grades K-12 have free access to Varsity Tutors, a fantastic online platform offering 24/7 academic support, live group classes, essay review, and more. Through this partnership, your child can connect with expert tutors whenever they need help!

To make things easier, we’ve included a quick video tutorial explaining how your child can access the Chat with a Tutor feature. This feature allows students to ask questions and get immediate assistance in a subject they’re struggling with — all available through their district Clever accounts.

Watch the Video

In addition to the Chat with a Tutor feature, we also want to reshare that students have access to free SAT and ACT test prep courses through this platform. This is a unique opportunity for our students to prepare for college entrance exams with expert guidance, helping them gain confidence and improve their readiness for their next academic step.

We encourage you to take advantage of this valuable resource, available to all students through June 30, 2030.
