The Amity Weekly Minute: September 10, 2023

What's New?

From the Desk of Mr. Drouhard

Dear Amity Families,

September is Attendance Awareness Month across the state of Ohio. We appreciate you sending your child to school on time daily! Our teachers hit the ground running every day, and every minute counts in helping your child to grow. If you ever encounter barriers to getting your child to school, please let us know so we can help!

I know that there are times when your child will be out with an illness. Communication is critical when this happens. Call our attendance line at 513-891-2414 or email Beth Teague, our attendance secretary. If you end up going to the doctor, always take a doctor's note to record the absence. If it is a prolonged absence, reaching out to our teachers allows us to provide missed work. This helps ease a student's return without feeling overwhelmed.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need support with your child. We are here to help them succeed!

Take Care,
Josh

Amity Fall Enrichment Opportunities for Grades 2-4

We will be offering enrichment opportunities for students in grades 2-4 during the fall session. This is a great way for your child to improve their knowledge on the topic, have a little fun, and build some relationships outside of the classroom. All of the enrichment opportunities are free of charge. Please see the flier below regarding the offerings and how to sign up.

Ohio State Test Family Reports

Ohio State Test Family Reports will come home in backpacks for students in grades 4-6 on Friday, September 15th. These are the results from the Ohio State Tests that were taken last April. These reports will show how your child scored, and then compared to other students around the state. It will also share areas of strength and opportunities for growth. Please look for those reports in your students backpacks. If you have questions regarding anything shared on the report, please feel free to reach out to our teaching team.

Amity Fall Conferences

Amity Fall Conferences are held on Thursday, September 28th from 1:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday, September 29th from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. This is a great time to check your child's progress and learn about their strengths and areas for growth. No School- September 28th and 29th

Just a reminder that there will be no school for students on Thursday, September 28th and 29th, as our teachers will be conducting conferences.

MAP Testing

MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) testing in reading, reading fluency and math will start occurring over the next couple of weeks. We took these tests in the fall as a baseline and will take them in the spring to check progress along the way. This will encompass all of our grades at Amity. This is not a high stakes test, like the Ohio State Tests, but we do always want our students to do their best. These online tests allow us to understand where students are currently in the tested subject area, so that we are better able to tailor how we teach them. I just wanted to keep you informed that this will be occurring in our classes.

Amity Fall Pictures

Amity will have its Fall picture day on Thursday, September 21st. Please see the flier below from Schoolhouse Photos for details regarding how to order pictures.
